We have a chick that we think will be a rooster. It's name is Moe, we named him Moe because it has a black line that looks like a mohawk. Moe is bigger than the other chicks, and he sort of herds the other chicks.
Hi Braden, It looks like the chicks are quite healthy. How old do they need to be before they can be released outside? P.S. It will be interesting to see if Moe is a rooster.
The chickens can be let outside when their permanent feathers grow in,to keep them warm. The permanent feathers start to grow in around the 3rd week. The feathers are fully grown in at about the 6th week.

Hi Braden!
ReplyDeleteThe kids think Moe is cute! I hope he is a rooster.... how long before you know?
PS- Zach wants to know how is Big Red doing? He also said when he sees the pictures of the chicks he just want to hold them!!!

ReplyDeleteWhen the chicks are 6-8 weeks old the roosters will actually start to crow, but the roosters will show sings of aggression before they crow.
ReplyDeleteBig Red is doing very well, he is probably pretty happy because he has all the hens under his command. Hi Zach, I miss you. Hope to see you soon.
