My Chart

This is the chart of the eggs we have placed in the incubator so far. The chart keeps track of the color of the egg, the date put in, the date to stop rotation, and the number of the egg. The eggs have been in the incubator for about a week, so we will do the first fertility test for green and white eggs this week. We won't give the brown eggs a fertility test for about a week more because they are too dark to be able to tell if the embryo has formed.

The candler is a flashlight and a dark piece of paper with an inch wide round hole in it.We will hold the flashlight to the hole in the paper so light is coming through, then we will hold the egg to the hole so we will see all the contents of the egg. If it looks like the embryo is forming we will put it back in the incubator. By the ninth day the embryo starts to look like a chick. If we cannot tell we will check it again at 14 days, at that time the chick will actually have feathers.
